Sushi is big business these days. And Sushi K Bar is one of the key players in the Kosher sushi business. Only 10 years ago sushi was a non common food and rarely eaten or ever seen. The popularity of Sushi is greater now than ever. People are much more health conscious and enjoy the fact that it is low fat, loaded with nutrients, and easy and quick to make. For instance, a typical serving of Sushi consists of 8 to 10 pieces, which is around 350 to 400 calories. It didnt take long for the frum community to embrace Sushi and it wasnt long until you saw sushi at weddings, bar mitzvas, and platters of sushi served at Vort’s in peoples homes. A young business entrepreneur named Meilech knew just how to capitalize using his background in commodity-consumer product marketing. Knowing the importance of creating the brand for his business he chose the name Sushi K Bar and opened his flagship location on 16th Avenue between 41st and 42nd street in Boro Park.

Having spent 6 months researching successful five star restauntrant owners, Meilech was able to see how established and popular restaurants operated, how they dealt with making tough decisions and knowing when to gamble on new ideas. He learned first hand from some of the best in the business on what to do and more importantly what not to do. Recently when asked , Meilech responded “Having the best food is obvious. But I wanted a way to present my food to the mass audience without compromising taste, freshness and presentation”. Getting food to a mass audience is very tough. It needs to sit in trucks, warehouses and ingredients such as preservatives needed to be added since most commcerialized food is eaten days or weeks after its initially prepared. One such popular product is frozen pizza, made by some of the most famous pizza stores in brooklyn, are now available in your local grocery. In our interview Meiliech said “I wanted to get my product , which is FRESH sushi and make it available and easily accessible to a larger audience. Simply making sushi in a rented warehouse was not an option due to the nature of the product. People want to know that their sushi is being made SPECIFICALLY for them, right there on the spot! With sushi, people won’t tolerate a bad tasting or days old product”.

Sushi K Bar at Moisha's Supermarket , Avenue M, East 4th St

If some of you readers are wondering why the name Sushi K Bar sounds familiar, despite not living or frequenting the 16th avenue location, you are not alone. In the past year, Sushi K Bar has embarked on a massive expansion in order to get their products to have a front row seat to as many shoppers as possible. According to Meilech he says “At the grocery stores; that is when people have their pocketbooks and wallets opened. The shopper knows they are there to shop for their household and are prepared to spend money. And we all know that getting your product in front of willing consumers is the key to big business.” Next up for Sushi K Bar was to secure space in leading supermarkets throughout Brooklyn. And in the course of the next few months Sushi K Bar was offering FRESH and made to order sushi on the spot in front of shoppers of K.R.M ( kollel store ) , Moisha’s Supermarket, Empire Kosher and Landau’s Williamsburg. Using his own specialty trained chefs in each location, Sushi K Bar is able to offer customers freshly prepared sushi from large menu. Meilech states “I have well trained chefs at each location, They can make whatever the customer wants. They can even wait right there and watch my chefs make their order or continue shopping and come back to the sushi counter and pick up their order”. The sheer volume of sushi being sold allows Meilich to keep his prices very low at all locations. Customers can even call or pickup sushi platters at each of the Sushi K Bar locations for their own home or to bring to a simcha. And the next time you go to a simcha or corporate party, don’t be surprised to see a Sushi K Bar chef and sushi station. On catering Meilech says “People go to a party and see a sushi station bearing the Sushi K Bar logo and they know that the food is good, fresh and the best, and not just some hired guy by an all around caterer. We specialize in the sushi business and therefore able to give a large consumer-base the very best and for the lowest price. Be on the lookout for many more locations to pop up in the Brooklyn area.”

Large Screen TV Shows Customers Behind The Scenes

SushiKBar.com was recently launched to serve its many corporate customers via a full featured website. At anytime from any computer an order can be made. Whether it’s a one roll and one drink delivery or a family sized order for dinner the website is fully equipped and easy to use. A feature soon to be seen on the website is a live streaming camera showing the actual chef who is making your oder. This feature is already available inside the 16th Avenue location with a 42in screen. On this feature Meiliech says “A lot of our customers who see this screen on the wall always make a comment and enjoy watching the chef on the big screen. It may be for your entertainment but it also shows you our commitment to keep everything fresh. Soon that camera will be streaming online for all to see.”
