Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin responds from prison in letter to 6th graders.
Students in a Brooklyn,NY yeshiva have been learning about the Rubashkin family. Their teacher, Yosef Shidler discussed the ongoing court case, and the origins of the Agriprocessors meat plant. “We spoke about the tremendous amounts of tzedakka that the Rubashkin family has given” Shidler says “As well as the alleged crimes committed, all they way up to the appeals process”.

In a class writing assignment, the students were asked to write letters to Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin to where he currently resides in an Iowa prison. The class was given a lesson on how to write a letter and each student was asked to write Rubashkin a personal letter. The letters were worked on in class and as homework with the parents. After the letters were completed they were mailed to the Linn County Correctional Center in Iowa.
It took quite some time but the students finally received a letter from Sholom Mordechai Rubashkin last week. In the letter he thanked the class for the extra mitzvos being done on his behalf. He said that since he isn’t able to ‘fabreng’ with them he would write them a little divrei torah on on the coming weeks parsha. The students were very pleases with the return letter that came, and thoroughly enjoyed writing lesson. Their teacher Yosef Shidler said he hoped that other school children and would follow suit saying
“It would be amazing if Sholom Mordechai received hundreds of letters from Jewish children worldwide

why is this person getting so much attention from the jewish media, he may have been charitable but so was madoff, i am not comparing him to madoff , but plenty of criminals may have some decent traits , at the end of the day , he violated american laws, which make it punishable,

It doesn’t sound like you know all the facts of the case. If you did, you would understand that the sentence being asked for in this case (life in prison) is irrational, draconian, bizarre, and completely beyond the pale of equity and justice. Several U.S. Attorneys General — including Janet Reno and Edwin Meese — obviously agree with me since they have just signed a letter to that effect, and you can be assured that they have read the facts of the case.
I am a handwriting analyst and a former private investigator with over 30 years of experience in the field and there is no comparison between the handwriting of Bernie Madoff and Rubashkin. Bernie Madoff’s script looks like a conniving, no-feeling, sociopathic spider web with a complete disconnection to others and absolutely no sense of remorse or concern for his treachery; whereas Rubashkin’s script is open (interested in people) round (caring, nurturing) and irregular (this is the part that is troubling as it points to an unsteady ego) and loosely written {easily influenced, too open to temptation). While both are guilty of wrongdoing, Madoff is not about to do teshuvah whereas Rubashkin is much more sincere in his desire to connect and accept responsibility.
Interesting that the original charges were dropped.Those are the charges that prompted this entire investigation in the first place. All charges were dropped on the immmigration violation cases. The government then went after Rubashin on a law that was from 1921. packers law. Because he was late on a few payments. They were digging the bottom of the barrel on this one. I guarantee this verdict will be overthrown in court and a new trial will reveal that Rubashkin was unfairly targeted, convicted and sentenced. I guarantee that within 3-5 years Rubashkin will be a free man and will have received his second trial.
